NEW YEAR, NEW YOU!

New Year, New You....isn't that what everybody always says? Yes, I've done that many, many times as well.  But the last fews year, I made no such committment simply because the New Year came in.  In fact, I made a conscience effort to avoid all resolutions period.  I don't want to make commitment that I feel will be detrimental to my self-esteem at some point when I'm unable to fulfill the obligation.

So, instead of making New Year's resolutions, I have had an ongoing to commitment to my fitness and overhealth and it has paid off.  Although, I haven't reached my weightloss goals and have had set-backs throughout the year, I remain focused on achieving my goals to a healthier lifestyle.

For the past few months I've been reading about the health benefits of a plant based diet.  I actually viewed a documentary which went into great detail about how certain foods are damaging to your health and in most cases sabotage your goals in obtaining optimal health. The documentary is called "Forks Over Knifes" and if you do your research you will find that it some very valuable information that could be very beneficial to you as you make decisions about what is best for your personal health and goals.

I made a personal decision to start a plant based diet.  Although, in the beginning in was really dificult because I craved certain foods that I was accustomed to eating weekly like popcorn chicken and fries.  I came realize that my health was more important than indulging in things that would not benefit me in the long run.  So, as I move forward in this year and the coming years, I'm certain that I will reap a wealth of health improvements from the changes that I've made over the past couple of years.

I challenge you to value your health and evaluate how important certain things are in your life.  Ask yourself, what is more important.  Is it more important to you to look and feel your best or always do what you always done and always getting what you've always had?

Happy New Year and Happy New You!!

Living the Fit Life

So, this is my very post fitness post and I've been meaning to share before now.  I'm in the 6th week of doing a program called "Insanity".  Insanity is an extreme cardio program in that it really challenges you and takes you beyond your comfort level and pushes you into the next level of fitness beyond anywhere you've ever been before.  I'm in week 1 month two.  It's a two month program.  I've developed a challenge group on facebook and I have quite a few people who will be joining me for a second round of insanity right after Thanksgiving. I look forward to the challenge of inspiring them to dig deeper and push themselves to succeed and not give up.

Although I suffered a minor set back right after week four when my left knee became swollen, I did not quit.  I took a few days off during my recovery week, rest, ice, and more rest then started week 6 as scheduled wearing knee stabilizers and it has worked well.  Modifying some of the power moves to insure that I would not cause myself further injury.  I'm happy to say that I feel absolutely great and am doing quite well.

Here is a picture of my results for the first month. The pictures say more than I could have explained.  So, I am challenged everyday with trying to eat the right things and not over indulge, but I have succeeded as long as I see results from my effort.  I will share my diet and other progress as I blog, but I would definitely like to see others improve their health and start some sort of exercise regime even if it's not the one I'm doing at the moment.  Until next time, have a blessed day and week!
